The number of people killed in the recent violence at Odomi in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region has risen to four after another injured victim passed away at the hospital.
The attack, which took place on Friday, left several residents caught in the violence. Ten others remain injured after sustaining gunshot wounds during the incident.
The latest death has added to growing fears in the municipality, where tensions have remained high due to a long-standing dispute over land and ethnic differences involving the Adele, Akyode and Challa communities.
Over the years, authorities and community leaders have made repeated attempts to restore peace, but clashes have continued to resurface.
Hospital officials confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been moved to the morgue at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Following the renewed unrest, the Ministry of the Interior, acting on recommendations from the National Security Council, introduced a curfew in parts of the municipality to contain the situation.
Under the directive, movement will be restricted from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. in affected communities.
The curfew covers Nkwanta, Bonakye, Odomi, Nyankoma, Power, Kromase, Shiare, Nyambo, Abrewanko and Keri.
Security personnel have intensified patrols and are expected to remain in the area to maintain order and prevent fresh confrontations.
Residents continue to hope for calm as leaders search for a more lasting solution to the conflict that has disrupted lives and created uncertainty in the municipality for years.
