Six individuals, including a traditional priest, have been arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court for their alleged involvement in a violent disturbance that occurred at the Osu Chief’s Palace in Accra.

The accused persons include Ezekial Lutherdrodt, a traditional priest; Samuel Baffoe, a painter; Benjamin Adamah, a bouncer; Kudjoe Abusah, a self-employed man; Tettey Adamah, a security officer; and Tawfiq Mohammed, a mason.

They appeared before Her Honour Nancy Teiko Searyoh and were granted bail in the sum of GH¢70,000 each, with two sureties.

The court further ordered that one of the sureties must justify the bail with a landed property or title deed equivalent to the bail amount.

The case has been adjourned to August 24, 2026, for mention. The court also directed the prosecution to file and serve all necessary disclosures ahead of the Case Management Conference.

The accused persons have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, causing harm, and causing unlawful damage, contrary to various sections of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

According to the prosecution, the complainants, Theodore Dodoo, a teacher, and Freeman Kweku Avor, a goldsmith, were part of a group of elders gathered at the Osu Chief’s Palace to perform annual traditional rites during the “Kpokpoe” ceremony on August 26, 2025.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, told the court that at about 12:30 p.m., the accused persons and others who were allegedly opposed to the ceremony arrived at the palace, leading to a confrontation.

The situation is said to have escalated into a scuffle, during which the complainants and others were allegedly attacked and sustained injuries.

They were later taken to the hospital for treatment.

The court further heard that several items at the palace were destroyed during the incident, including food prepared for the ceremony.

A Nissan pickup vehicle parked within the premises also had its windows allegedly smashed.

Following the disturbance, a formal complaint was lodged with the police, leading to investigations and the issuance of medical report forms to the injured persons.

Police say the accused were later arrested and, in their caution statements, denied involvement in the alleged offences. After completing investigations, they were charged and brought before the court.
