Linda Ocloo orders demolition of Ablekuma West flood barriers

Linda Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, has instructed the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly to remove all structures blocking waterways in the municipality by Wednesday, June 3, after recent flooding affected several communities in the area.

She gave the directive during a tour of flood-hit communities in the Ablekuma West Municipality as part of an ongoing assessment of the impact of the floods.

The inspection team included the Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma West, George Kpakpo Allotey, as well as officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

During the tour, the team visited flood-prone locations to assess the level of destruction caused by the flooding.

They also examined drainage systems in the affected communities and discussed urgent measures to help prevent future incidents.

The Regional Minister expressed concern over the growing number of structures built along drainage paths and waterways.

According to her, such developments continue to worsen flooding in the municipality by preventing the smooth flow of water.

She therefore directed the Municipal Chief Executive to ensure that all structures obstructing waterways are demolished immediately to reduce the risk of future floods.
