The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has resigned from his position effective July 31, 2026.
The announcement was made by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu during the Government Accountability Series held on Monday, June 15.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also confirmed that the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, has retired.
According to him, Dr. Asare stated in his resignation letter that he wants to return to teaching and research at the University of Ghana.
He said Dr. Asare also thanked the President and the people of Ghana for giving him the opportunity to serve at the Electoral Commission.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further revealed that steps are already being taken to appoint replacements for the two officials. He said a nominee has been submitted to the Council of State for consideration.
He explained that after the Council of State completes its review, an official announcement will be made regarding the replacement for Mr. Tettey.
A separate process will then be carried out to fill the position being vacated by Dr. Bossman Asare.
The Electoral Commission is expected to provide more information about the transition in the coming days.
