The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has stormed the China Mall and seized a large quantity of inferior products that were allegedly supplied illegally into the country.
According to the GSA, the products failed to meet Ghana’s required standards after laboratory testing. Officials said the seized items had no country of origin indicated on their packaging, raising concerns about their authenticity and safety for consumers.
The operation formed part of the Authority’s ongoing market surveillance exercise aimed at protecting the public from substandard and unapproved products on the Ghanaian market.
GSA officers, together with other enforcement personnel, visited the shopping facility in Ashaiman and confiscated the products after investigations revealed several violations of product regulations.
The Authority stated that the items did not meet the specifications stated on their labels, making them unfit for sale.
Officials explained that all imported products sold in Ghana must clearly show their country of origin and comply with approved standards before they can be distributed on the market.
The GSA warned importers, distributors and retailers against bringing unapproved products into the country, stressing that offenders would face sanctions under the law.
The Authority further urged consumers to remain alert and carefully check product labels before making purchases. It also encouraged the public to report suspicious or unapproved goods to the GSA for immediate action.
The seized products are expected to undergo further investigations while authorities determine the next legal steps against those involved in the supply and distribution chain.
