Korle Bu Allied Health Workers demonstrate for substantive director

Members of the Ghana Federation of Allied Health Professions have staged a protest today, Friday, May 15, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).

They are calling for the immediate activation of an Allied Health Directorate and the appointment of a permanent director to lead it.

The group said poor leadership and weak administration have affected allied health services and overall healthcare delivery at the hospital for years.

They explained that they organised the protest to push for long-delayed reforms.

Protesters marched through key areas of the hospital while wearing red armbands to show their dissatisfaction.

Speaking to journalists after the demonstration, the Acting Chairman of the Korle Bu chapter of the federation, Edward Ayem, said members had raised the issue several times with hospital management, the Ministry of Health, the National Labour Commission, and other relevant bodies.

However, he noted that authorities had not taken enough action.

He said the protest aimed to highlight the ongoing challenges and pressure decision-makers to act quickly.

“Our ultimate demand remains very clear: the full operationalisation of the Allied Health Directorate at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the appointment of a substantive Allied Health Director to provide professional leadership, coordination, accountability, and effective governance for Allied Health services,” he said.

Mr. Ayem added that the group still supports dialogue but insists that authorities must stop delaying the establishment of the directorate.
