Motorcyclist killed in crash involving Metro Mass bus near UCC

A motorcyclist has died in a road crash involving a Metro Mass Transit bus and a private vehicle on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway.

The accident occurred on Saturday, June 13, 2026, near the University of Cape Coast (UCC), close to the Rashid Sumaila Washing Bay, triggering an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to the GNFS, firefighters from the UCC Fire Station arrived at the scene at about 4:48 p.m. after receiving a distress call.

The crash involved a Boxer motorcycle with registration number M-26-WR, a Toyota Corolla with registration number CR 44-22, and a Metro Mass-branded Daewoo bus bearing registration number GS 5267-20.

Preliminary investigations and eyewitness accounts indicate that the motorcyclist collided with the side of the Toyota Corolla while travelling along the highway. The impact threw the rider onto the road, where he was subsequently struck by the oncoming Metro Mass bus.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle was extensively damaged, while the Toyota Corolla sustained damage to its side.

Upon arrival, firefighters secured the area, directed traffic and cleared debris from the roadway to prevent further accidents and ensure the smooth flow of vehicles.

The deceased’s body was later transported by police to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital mortuary pending identification and further investigations.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
