Former Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has urged the newly enskinned Kampakuya Naa Abukari Yakubu to safeguard the peace legacy of his late father, Yaa Naa Abukari II, as he takes on the responsibility of helping steer the affairs of Dagbon.
Dr. Bawumia, who was present at the enskinment ceremony, described the late Yaa Naa Abukari II as a peace-loving leader who dedicated himself to ensuring unity and harmony among the people of Dagbon.
He also paid tribute to the late Ndan Yaa Naa Abukari II, describing him as a father figure who regularly offered him advice and encouraged him to remain humble.
The newly enskinned Kampakuya Naa Abukari Yakubu, in his remarks, pledged to respect and uphold the rotational arrangement for chieftaincy succession in Dagbon, which he described as a critical agreement for sustaining peace between the Andani and Abudu royal gates.
“The rotational arrangement for chieftaincy succession in Dagbon is a sacred compact agreed upon by our royal families and endorsed by the kingmakers as the foundation of lasting peace between the Andani and Abudu gates. I affirm it, I embrace it, and I will uphold it,” he said.
Kampakuya Naa Abukari Yakubu assured the people of Dagbon that he would continue to protect the achievements and values established by his late father.
“This is the Dagbon he built. This is the Dagbon he left us. And this is the Dagbon we must protect,” he stated.
He further pledged to preserve the peace his father achieved across the kingdom, including among the royal gates, communities, ethnic groups and religious groups.
“I will uphold every peace my father achieved, between the royal gates, between communities, between ethnic groups, and between religious sects,” he declared.
The Regent of Dagbon appealed to all residents of the kingdom to support him in managing the affairs of Dagbon until a new Yaa Naa is selected and enskinned.
