The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has responded to claims that some X (formerly Twitter) content creators who recently met with them are linked to politics.
The bank denied the claims and stated that the meeting was strictly professional.
The meeting took place on April 22, 2026, where the creators spoke about delays in receiving their earnings from the platform.
In a statement released on May 4, 2026, the BoG explained that the discussion was focused on solving payment problems affecting these creators, many of whom depend on digital platforms for their income.
“We state categorically that this group has no political affiliation. They engaged the Bank solely as concerned content creators seeking a practical resolution to a legitimate issue,” the central bank stated.
The Bank of Ghana said it understands its concerns and is working on ways to reduce the delays in processing payments.
It also explained that the money earned from platforms like X is treated as export income under Ghana’s financial rules. Because of this, the payments must go through certain foreign exchange processes, which can sometimes cause delays.
“The Bank of Ghana is working with all relevant parties to remove bottlenecks and ensure a seamless process for legitimate beneficiaries,” the statement added.
The BoG also said it is committed to supporting Ghana’s growing digital economy. It noted that making it easier for people to receive earnings from international platforms is important for innovation and digital business growth.
Many content creators in Ghana have been complaining about delays in getting paid, showing that there are still challenges in how cross-border digital payments are handled.
