13 drivers busted for illegal siren use on Kasoa–Winneba Highway

Thirteen drivers have been arrested by the Central East Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for using sirens and emergency lights without authorisation during a special enforcement exercise along the Kasoa–Winneba Highway.

The operation, which took place on May 30, 2026, at Budumburam, involved the use of sirens and emergency lights without proper authorisation, and was part of ongoing initiatives to enforce road traffic regulations and foster discipline among motorists in the area.

Officials reported that the drivers were discovered utilising sirens and emergency lamps without the necessary authorisation, thereby breaching Regulations 65 and 74 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).

The MTTD task force provided education to the offenders regarding the pertinent legal provisions and subsequently processed them in line with established legal procedures.

The unauthorised sirens and emergency lamps were confiscated from the vehicles, and the drivers received warning letters, along with a caution against repeating the offence.

The Central East Regional Police Command has stated its unwavering commitment to enforcing road traffic regulations and maintaining order and safety on the roads of Ghana.
