Diego Simeone has praised Arsenal for their strong squad depth following a tense UEFA Champions League encounter against Atlético Madrid last night.
Speaking after the match, the Atlético Madrid coach expressed surprise at the quality on Arsenal’s bench. “Did you see the five who came on?” Simeone said. “Every time one came on, I’d say, ‘Is that for real?’ Yes, it’s true!”
The match, played at a high tempo, ended in a 1-1 draw. Arsenal took the lead in the first half through a well-worked team move, before Atlético responded with an equaliser after the break.
Simeone was full of admiration for Arsenal’s overall quality and consistency this season. He noted that the team has remained unbeaten in the Champions League and has been among the top sides in the Premier League since the campaign began.
A key factor in Arsenal’s success, according to Simeone, is the strength of their bench. During the match, manager Mikel Arteta introduced several high-quality substitutes who made an immediate impact.
Players such as Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Emile Smith Rowe, and Reiss Nelson came off the bench, maintaining the team’s intensity and control.
Simeone admitted his team faced a very difficult opponent.
“They’ve got more than enough quality to compete. We’re up against a top-class side,” he said.
