NPP stages “Yen Suro Ahunahuna” protest in Sunyani

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold a protest today, Wednesday, April 22, in Sunyani.

The party has named the protest “Yen Suro Ahunahuna,” an Akan phrase that translates to “We are not afraid of intimidation”.

Many supporters, sympathisers, and residents across the region are expected to join the event.

The protest comes after the arrest of the party’s Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, also known as Baba Amando.

Party members have expressed concern about his detention. They believe the situation raises serious questions about the protection of basic human rights, such as freedom of speech and political expression.

Regional leaders of the NPP have described the arrest as worrying. They are demanding more openness and clear information from law enforcement agencies about the situation.

According to the party, the protest is not only about Baba Amando’s arrest. It also aims to defend democratic values and protect civil liberties in the country.

The NPP plans to use the demonstration as a platform to draw attention to what it sees as increasing threats to constitutional rights and the rule of law.

At the same time, the Ghana Police Service has assured the public that officers have made enough security arrangements to keep the protest peaceful and well-organised.

The police have also advised participants to cooperate with security personnel and follow the laws that guide public demonstrations.
