The Ashanti Regional Police Command has initiated a manhunt for a group of armed robbers who shot and killed a passenger during an assault at Ahyiresu in the Nyinahin District.

The incident took place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m. along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road, when the robbers allegedly ambushed a VIP bus transporting around 30 football players and officials of Berekum Chelsea.

According to police reports, the driver swerved off the road into a bush while trying to escape from six armed men, three of whom were carrying pump-action guns.

During the assault, one of the passengers, identified as footballer Dominic Frimpong, suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he subsequently died.

Another victim, 52-year-old George Owusu Afriyie, was robbed of GH¢4,500.

Police have stated that two spent BB cartridges were recovered from the scene to assist with investigations.

The Regional Command has since dispatched additional personnel and crime scene experts to locate the suspects, assuring the public that measures are being taken to bring the offenders to justice.

Residents have been encouraged to remain calm and cooperate with the police as investigations proceed.
