Nine people sustained various degrees of injuries after two vehicles collided head-on at Awaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region on Friday morning.

The accident involved a Toyota Sienta with registration number AS 4009-25 and a Tata Xenon pickup with registration number GT 2961-25.

According to police reports, the Toyota Sienta was being driven by 39 year old Manu Augustine from Sefwi Dwenase towards Bibiani with six passengers on board.

Reports indicate that upon reaching a section of the road near Appetite at Awaso, the driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle ahead of him.

In the process, the Toyota Sienta collided head-on with the oncoming Tata Xenon pickup travelling from the opposite direction.

The pickup was being driven by Augustine Debrah, also 39, and had two passengers onboard, Tejinder Singh, a 35 year old Indian national, and Evans Badu, 26.

All occupants of both vehicles, including the drivers, suffered varying degrees of injuries following the impact.

Victims were rushed to the Green Shield Hospital at Sefwi Bekwai for emergency medical treatment.

Police have since impounded the accident vehicles to aid investigations into the cause of the crash.

Authorities are expected to continue examining the circumstances surrounding the attempted overtaking maneuver that reportedly led to the collision.
