Ghana officially ushered in a new era as newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz was unveiled, delivering a bold and confident message that signals both ambition and accountability ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The experienced Portuguese tactician takes over from Otto Addo, who successfully guided Ghana to World Cup qualification before being dismissed.
With a managerial career spanning over four decades, Queiroz arrives with an extensive résumé, having handled top national teams including Portugal, Iran, and Egypt, as well as club roles at Real Madrid and Manchester United as an assistant.
His appointment is widely seen as a move by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to inject experience and tactical discipline into the national team setup.
Speaking at his unveiling, Queiroz made it clear he understands the magnitude of the task ahead, particularly in a football-loving nation like Ghana.
“I’m surrounded by 33 million coaches,” he remarked, acknowledging the intense scrutiny and passion of Ghanaian fans.
“This is the biggest challenge of my entire career and I am ready for that. I will bring you 40 years of my knowledge and experience.”
The veteran coach emphasized unity and discipline as the cornerstone of his philosophy.
“There is no player above the team,” he stated firmly.
Queiroz also paid tribute to his predecessor, recognising Otto Addo’s contribution to Ghana’s recent success.
“The goal is to improve Otto Addo’s legacy. I want to thank him for qualifying Ghana to the World Cup,” he said.
On the pitch, the expectations are clear.
“My players must be ready to fight and win,” he declared, signalling a competitive mindset that Ghanaian supporters will be eager to see reflected in performances.
With the World Cup on the horizon, Queiroz’s unveiling marks the beginning of what promises to be a defining chapter for the Black Stars.
