Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has revealed that he is not ready to retire yet, insisting that his love for football remains strong and he hopes to continue playing for another one or two years.
The experienced shot-stopper, who recently celebrated his 40th birthday, said his immediate priority is finding a new club where he will be valued for his ability and experience rather than for commercial reasons.
“I think the first thing I want to sort out is my future because I love football,” Vozinha said. “The fact that I’m here at 40 years old is because I have this passion for this game.”
The veteran goalkeeper explained that his decision to continue playing is driven by his dedication to the sport and his desire to remain competitive. He added that he will only consider retirement when he feels his body can no longer meet the demands of professional football.
“I want to keep playing for another year or two, and then I’ll see how my body feels and how it responds,” he said.
Vozinha also stressed that he wants his next move to be based on footballing reasons rather than financial or marketing interests. The Cape Verde international hopes to join a club that appreciates what he can offer on the pitch.
“I hope to find a club that wants me for who I am as a player, not for marketing reasons,” he added.
The goalkeeper has enjoyed a long and successful career, becoming one of Cape Verde’s most recognisable football figures. He has represented his country at several major international tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations, and has built a reputation as a reliable and experienced presence between the posts.
At an age when most footballers have already retired, Vozinha continues to maintain his fitness and motivation to compete at the highest level.
