Asante Kotoko were forced to settle for a point after drawing 2-2 with newly promoted Debibi United in their opening Ghana Premier League game in Berekum.
The Porcupine Warriors appeared to be heading for victory after taking an early lead, but a strong second-half performance from the debutants turned the game on its head before Kotoko fought back to rescue a point.
Dogo Yakubu gave Kotoko the perfect start when he found the back of the net early in the match. The visitors maintained their advantage for much of the first half as Debibi struggled to find a way through their defence.
However, the home side returned from the break with renewed determination and quickly changed the direction of the game.
Richard Owusu became the star for Debibi, scoring twice in the second half to give the newly promoted side a 2-1 lead.
The comeback appeared to have put Debibi on course for a memorable victory over one of Ghana’s biggest clubs.
Kotoko, however, refused to leave Berekum empty-handed. Herbert Gyau found the equaliser after reacting quickly to a goalmouth scramble, bringing the score to 2-2.
Neither side could find a winning goal in the closing stages as the points were shared.
