Ghana defender Gideon Mensah has described the Black Stars’ defeat to Colombia and their exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a painful result to accept.
He made the remarks after Ghana lost 1-0 to Colombia in the Round of 32 in a closely fought match played in Kansas City.
Ghana conceded the only goal of the game in the 14th minute when Jhon Arias headed home. The goal came just a minute after right back Marvin Senaya was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury and was replaced by Alidu Seidu.
Mensah put in another strong performance at left back but was left disappointed as Ghana’s World Cup journey came to an end.
“Coming into this game, we had so much belief that we were going to do something…it’s a very hard defeat to take. They dominated the game since the beginning.”
He said Ghana struggled to settle into the match after conceding early and admitted the team allowed Colombia to control the game from the start.
“The time that we got into the game was a bit too late because we were down 1-0. I think the part that was killing us was that we gave them the chance to play from the beginning” Gideon Mensah said in a post-game presser.
