Ghana’s national beach soccer team has begun preparations for the 2026 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with 60 players selected for screening ahead of a crucial first-round tie against Nigeria.
The players have been selected from two zones across the country and will report in two batches as the technical team begins the process of building a strong squad for the continental campaign.
The first group of 30 players, drawn from Zone I, will undergo screening at Laboma Beach today, Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The second batch will report for screening at Keta Beach on Thursday, September 10.
Following the screening exercise, the technical team will reduce the number of players and begin an intensive training programme for those selected.
Ghana faces a difficult two-legged tie against Nigeria, with the first leg scheduled to be played in Nigeria between September 18 and 20. The return fixture will be hosted by Ghana between September 25 and 27.
The team that wins the first-round tie will progress to the second stage of the qualifiers, where it will join 12 nations that have been exempted from the opening round.
The successful teams from the next stage will then compete for places at the 2026 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal.
A total of 16 countries are expected to compete for seven qualification spots at the continental tournament. Hosts Senegal have already secured an automatic place at the finals.
