Former Chile international Arturo Vidal has thrown his support behind Cristiano Ronaldo amid the controversy surrounding the Portugal captain and his recent departure from the national team camp.
Vidal praised Ronaldo’s contribution to Portuguese football, saying the veteran forward played a major role in transforming Portugal into one of the leading international teams in world football.
“Cristiano is the one who put Portugal among the best international teams in the world. He took football and Portugal to another level. He has my complete support,” Vidal said.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich midfielder also placed Ronaldo among the greatest players in football history, describing him as one of his top four.
Vidal’s comments come at a time when Ronaldo’s relationship with the Portugal setup has attracted significant attention following his decision to leave the team’s training camp in Denmark.
The decision reportedly followed developments surrounding his role in the squad, with Ronaldo having been left on the bench during Portugal’s Nations League fixture against Norway.
