Twenty basic schools have been selected to participate in the 2026 FIFA Women’s Football Campaign, which will take place on Tuesday, July 14, at the WAFA Academy in Fiavie in the Volta Region.
The one-day event is expected to bring together 300 girls from across the region for football activities, fun games and skills development sessions aimed at encouraging more young girls to take up the sport.
The participating schools are Toje Basic School, Fievie Basic School, Fievie EP School, Cuniberto Basic School, Sogakope Basic School, Dendo Primary C, Avorvi Primary B, Sogakope Primary A, Sokpoe DA, Sokpoe PCG, Tefle PCG, Tefle DA, Agorkpo Basic School, Comboni Basic School, Hlevi Basic School, Toklokpo Basic School, Avegorme Basic School, Vume Basic School, Total Child School and Amedzo Bilingual School.

The campaign forms part of FIFA’s global initiative to promote women’s football at the grassroots level and encourage greater participation among young girls. Through similar programmes around the world, FIFA seeks to provide children with opportunities to learn the basics of football while promoting teamwork, confidence and healthy lifestyles.
In Ghana, the initiative also supports the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) efforts to strengthen women’s football by identifying young talent and creating more pathways for girls to develop their skills from an early age.
Participants will take part in football training sessions led by qualified coaches, interactive games and other educational activities designed to make the experience enjoyable while introducing them to the fundamentals of the game.
The campaign comes at a time when women’s football in Ghana continues to grow, with increased investment in youth development programmes and competitions such as the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
The GFA has also been working with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to expand opportunities for girls through school football programmes, coaching education and talent identification initiatives.
Organisers believe the event will not only help discover future football stars but also inspire more girls to pursue the sport and build confidence both on and off the pitch.
