Over 100 NPP executives petition General Secretary over alleged removal of names in Yendi

Over 100 polling station executives, electoral area officers, and constituency functionaries from the opposition New Patriotic Party in the Yendi Constituency have submitted a petition to the party’s General Secretary, requesting an immediate audit of the forms that were submitted as part of an ongoing internal party exercise.

The petitioners claimed that the forms originally filled out for them to be declared unopposed winners are not the same documents currently being utilised in the final summary with the Regional Representative.

According to the petitioners, no elections were held in several electoral areas and polling stations because the affected executives were endorsed to serve unopposed.

They clarified that forms were properly completed and submitted for their names to be entered into the official summary sheets for confirmation as winners. Still, they asserted that the information in the summary being referenced does not accurately reflect the original submissions made by the Electoral Area Committees.

In the petition directed to the General Secretary in Accra, the concerned members articulated what they termed as “deep concern and dissatisfaction” regarding the alleged removal and replacement of names, including those of current polling station executives, without any consultation or due process.

They insisted that the party had instructed Electoral Area Committees to submit agreed-upon names in line with established guidelines and consensus reached among stakeholders.

The petitioners contended that coordinators and affected individuals in the constituency later identified discrepancies between the original forms submitted and the summary documents currently in use.

They characterised the situation as arbitrary, unconsultative, and unjust, cautioning that this could erode confidence in the process and foster discontent among grassroots party members in the constituency.

The group therefore called on the party leadership to undertake a full audit of all forms as initially submitted and presented by the Electoral Areas.

The group further demanded the restoration of all names forwarded by the committees, immediate steps to ensure sanity, transparency and fairness in the process, and measures to allow the committees to function effectively.

Copies of the petition were also forwarded to the Northern Regional leadership of the New Patriotic Party and the constituency executives for their attention and action.
