Sedina Tamakloe was not in prison custody until June 24 — Minority

The Minority in Parliament has insisted that former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, was not in prison custody until June 24, 2026, following her extradition to Ghana earlier this month.

According to the Minority, although the convicted former MASLOC boss arrived in Ghana on June 9, 2026, to begin serving her 10-year jail sentence, she was not immediately admitted into prison custody as required by law.

Addressing journalists in Parliament on Thursday, June 25, a member of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, said records available to the Minority indicate a clear delay in her transfer into the Ghana Prisons Service.

He maintained that until June 24, Sedina Tamakloe had not been officially placed in prison custody, despite her return to the country.

“We can categorically state that until yesterday, June 24, Madam Sedina Tamakloe was not in prison custody. From June 9, when she arrived, to June 24, she was not in prison custody. That is a matter of record,” he said.

Mr. Baffour Awuah further argued that the delay raises serious legal concerns, including possible interference with the execution of a court judgment.

“By preventing her from serving the prison term for the 15 days that she has been in Ghana, government has interfered with a lawful order of a court of competent jurisdiction, and that is contempt of court,” he stated.

He alleged that the handling of the matter reflects broader concerns about the enforcement of court rulings in politically sensitive cases.

“The government will only do that because Sedina Tamakloe is one of its own, and that has been the trend,” he added.

The Minority is therefore demanding full clarification from the government and the Ghana Prisons Service on the exact timeline of her custody and the circumstances surrounding her admission into prison.
