NPP postpones confirmation of proposed constitutional amendments

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed the consideration and confirmation of proposed amendments to its constitution at the party’s ongoing National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.

The party’s Acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey, confirmed the postponement on Saturday, October 3, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The constitutional amendments were expected to form the first part of the conference before delegates proceed to elect the party’s national executives.

The proposals include changes to the designation of the party’s leader, the election of Vice-Chairpersons, the appointment of additional Vice-Chairpersons, the party’s communications structure and the status of the IT Officer as an executive position.

The party had initially planned to have delegates consider the amendments before voting in the national executive elections.

The postponement comes amid delays in the commencement of the conference, with the NPP attributing the delay to the late arrival of delegates at the venue.

About 7,163 delegates are expected to participate in the conference and the national executive elections.

The NPP is expected to announce a new arrangement for the consideration of the proposed amendments as proceedings continue.
