Nkwanta South under curfew after deadly Odomi clash kills 3

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has imposed a curfew on several communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality following a deadly attack that claimed three lives and left nine others injured.

The decision, made on the advice of the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument, takes effect from Friday, June 19, 2026.

The curfew will run daily from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until further notice.

The affected communities include Keri, Abrewanko, Abrewanko Junction, Nyambo, Nyambo Junction, Shari, Kromase, Power, Nyakoma, Odomi, Bonakye, and Nkwanta.

In a statement, the government appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to remain calm and resolve disputes peacefully.

Authorities also announced a total ban on the possession and carrying of firearms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons in the affected areas.

Anyone found with such weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.

The security measures follow Thursday’s attack in Odomi, which heightened tensions in the municipality.

Three people were killed, while nine others suffered gunshot injuries.

Government says the curfew and restrictions are aimed at restoring calm and maintaining security as efforts continue to resolve the situation.
