The Minority in Parliament has accused the Chief Executive Officer of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Chris Boadi-Mensah, of increasing his salary without the approval of the NPRA Board.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, April 16, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, claimed that Mr Boadi-Mensah doubled his salary shortly after taking office in February 2025.
According to him, this happened before the NPRA Board had been formed.
He questioned whether the salary increase followed the right procedures, arguing that such a decision should not have been made without a functioning board to approve it.
“A particularly disturbing issue has emerged. We are informed that Mr Boadi-Mensah doubled his salary immediately upon assumption of office in February 2025 without board approval.
“When he was appointed in February, even without the existence of the board, and we are aware that the board was formed months after he was made the CEO, he doubled his salary in February 2025,” she said.
Mr Assafuah also said pension funds belong to Ghanaian workers and are meant to support them after retirement. He stressed that these funds should be managed responsibly and with strict accountability.
He warned that making important decisions without the proper approval process could reduce public confidence in Ghana’s pension system.
