Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has assured the public that the livestock market near the Kanda National Mosque will be cleared by Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Her comments come after the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) raised concerns about poor sanitation, congestion, and disorder caused by the trading activity in the area.
According to the Minister, the livestock market started as a temporary response to the high demand for animals during the Eid al-Adha season.
However, authorities stepped in after concerns grew over traffic, sanitation problems, and the effect on the management of the city.
Speaking during a meeting with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and the media, Linda Ocloo said discussions were held with stakeholders and community leaders to give traders a short period to complete their sales before the area is cleared.
She stressed that the arrangement was only temporary and said measures are being put in place to ensure the situation does not happen again during future festive seasons.
“Honestly speaking we gave them up till Friday so hopefully we can assure you that by Saturday, the place will be cleared. We met the opinion leaders, and they pleaded with us. We have also directed the MCE that next time, they should find a nice place for them to display their livestock.
“So we are on course. Myself and the team will visit the place tomorrow to see if they will honour their pledge. We will make sure that the place comes back to its normal state,” she said.
