Kofi Jumah rushed to Korle-Bu ICU, yet to meet GH¢55m bail conditions

Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has reportedly been rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital following a sudden deterioration in his health condition.

According to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Communications Director, Paul Yandoh, efforts are ongoing to secure his release, but the process has been delayed due to his medical condition.

According to him, Kofi Jumah was transferred to the facility for urgent medical attention while still in custody, as efforts to meet his bail conditions remain unresolved.

Mr. Jumah was recently granted bail to the tune of GH¢55 million by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after his arrest on April 29, 2026, in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities.

Despite the bail approval, he has remained in custody due to difficulties in meeting the stringent conditions attached to the bail. His legal team is reportedly struggling to secure assets that meet the required threshold.

The development marks a significant turn in the ongoing case, raising concerns about his health as investigations continue.

Mr. Jumah’s arrest forms part of a broader probe into alleged breaches of public financial management during his tenure at GIHOC Distilleries, including issues related to asset disposal and procurement practices.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on his current medical condition, while it remains unclear how the situation could impact ongoing legal and investigative processes.
