Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have continued their demonstrations over what they describe as rising residential fees and the increasing cost of accommodation.
The students staged the protest for the second consecutive day, using music, placards and chants to draw attention to their concerns and demand action over the cost of staying in university accommodation.
Students from Kantanga Hall and Continental Hall were among those who took part in the demonstration during the two-day National Youth Conference held in Kumasi to mark International Youth Day.
The protesters used the gathering as an opportunity to publicly express their concerns about the financial pressure they face as a result of accommodation charges.
The students say the rising cost of residential facilities is placing an additional burden on them and their families, particularly at a time when many are already struggling to meet other educational expenses.
With placards in hand, the students marched and chanted slogans to communicate their dissatisfaction, turning the conference into a platform for highlighting the accommodation challenges facing some students.
The demonstration also comes amid wider concerns about the cost of tertiary education in Ghana, with accommodation, academic materials, transportation and other related expenses contributing significantly to the financial burden on students.
The students are calling for their concerns to be taken seriously and for measures to be introduced to make residential accommodation more affordable and accessible.
