A distressed family in Assin Fosu, within the Fosu Municipality of the Central Region, is racing against time to save the life of 30-year-old Bismark Amoh, who has reportedly been kidnapped by suspected kidnappers and subjected to severe physical abuse.
Amoh was abducted on Sunday, September 6, 2026, and has now spent more than 48 hours in captivity, with his captors repeatedly threatening to kill him if his family fails to pay a ransom.
A report monitored by The Ghana Report on Ghana News Agency (GNA), indicates that the kidnappers initially demanded GH¢45,000 and gave the family 24 hours to raise the money.
The family’s fears for Amoh’s safety intensified after the kidnappers sent his relatives disturbing audio and video recordings via WhatsApp.
In the recordings, the victim could be seen and heard desperately pleading for his life while urging his family to raise the ransom as quickly as possible.
Details from the recordings obtained by the GNA indicated that Amoh had been stripped naked and tied with ropes around his hands, legs and neck, leaving him completely restrained and at the mercy of his captors.
He was also shown being forced to lie or wallow in water that had been poured onto the floor as his abductors beat him with ropes.
At several points, Amoh could be heard crying for help as the perpetrators slapped him and struck him from different directions.
The reported brutality has turned what initially appeared to be a ransom demand into a desperate race to keep the victim alive.
GNA investigations suggested that the kidnappers were using Mr Amoh’s own mobile phone to communicate with his family through WhatsApp, apparently in an effort to hide their identities and avoid leaving digital traces that could help investigators locate them.
With the threat of losing their relative hanging over them, the family sought help from friends, relatives and other well-wishers and managed to raise GH¢19,500, which was subsequently sent to the kidnappers.
The family apparently expected the payment to secure Amoh’s immediate release, but instead, one of the kidnappers was heard demanding another GH¢30,500, which would bring the total ransom to GH¢50,000.
A woman’s voice can also be heard in the background accusing Bismark of allegedly defrauding the people involved in his detention, which she claimed led to his arrest, subsequent maltreatment and the demand for the money.
