New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful, John Boadu, has welcomed the endorsement of his candidature by the campaign team of former Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
In a statement dated September 9, 2026, the John Boadu Campaign described the endorsement as a significant show of confidence in his leadership and an important call for unity within the NPP.
The campaign expressed appreciation to Chairman Wontumi, his campaign leadership and other stakeholders for throwing their “full support, strength and political weight” behind Mr Boadu’s bid.
According to the statement, the endorsement goes beyond the ongoing National Chairmanship contest and presents an opportunity for the party to unite at what it described as a critical point in its history.
“This gesture is much more than an endorsement. It is a powerful statement of confidence in John Boadu’s leadership and, more importantly, a significant call for unity at a critical moment in the history of our Party,” the statement said.
The campaign pledged to work closely with Mr Wontumi’s team and other members of the party to rebuild unity, strengthen the NPP’s organisational structures and position the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
It said its broader objective is to build an “electorally formidable NPP” capable of securing victory for the party and paving the way for its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to become President of Ghana in 2029.
The John Boadu Campaign also assured Chairman Wontumi that his contribution and sacrifices to the NPP would not be forgotten.
It further pledged that a John Boadu-led NPP would work with the party’s flagbearer and legal team to pursue all legitimate legal avenues in the pending appeal and advocate for the earliest possible release of Mr Wontumi, subject to due process and the rule of law.
The campaign expressed gratitude to the Wontumi team for what it described as a decision to prioritise the unity and collective interest of the party.
“Together, we shall rebuild. Together, we shall unite. Together, we shall win. We have done it before. We will do it again. Let’s win together,” the statement added.
The endorsement is expected to strengthen Mr Boadu’s campaign as the NPP prepares for its National Chairmanship contest.
