Managing Director of Cocoa Marketing Company (Ghana) Limited (CMC), Wisdom Kofi Dogbey, has clarified that he is not the person referred to in media reports as “Wisdom Dogbey” who has reportedly been declared wanted by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Mr Dogbey said he issued the clarification after becoming aware of reports linking someone named “Wisdom Dogbey” to alleged offences involving defrauding by false pretences and money laundering.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I am not the person referred to in those reports,” he stated in a post on Facebook.
He emphasised that his full name is Wisdom Kofi Dogbey and that he is the Managing Director of CMC.
“I am Wisdom Kofi Dogbey, Managing Director of Cocoa Marketing Company (Ghana) Limited (CMC), and the reports in question do not concern me,” he said.
According to him, using the shorter name “Wisdom Dogbey” in headlines without sufficient identifying information could easily cause confusion and unintentionally associate him with the allegations.
“I have therefore felt it necessary to make this clarification because the use of the name ‘Wisdom Dogbey’ in headlines, without sufficient identification, can understandably create confusion and an unintended association,” he explained.
Mr Dogbey called on media organisations, digital platforms and members of the public to carefully confirm the identities of individuals mentioned in reports, especially when the reports involve allegations of criminal offences.
“I respectfully encourage media houses, digital platforms and members of the public to verify identities carefully before attributing reports of this nature to individuals,” he said.
He added that he remained committed to his responsibilities at CMC and to the company’s efforts to strengthen Ghana’s position in the global cocoa trade.
“I remain focused on my responsibilities at CMC and on the work we are undertaking to strengthen Ghana’s position in the global cocoa trade,” he stated.
