The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) to stop imposing unauthorised charges on parents and guardians.
The directive follows reports that some schools are compelling parents to pay additional fees and purchase items such as uniforms and cutlasses directly from the schools.
GES said heads of schools must comply with approved guidelines on admission and the requirements for new and continuing students.
It warned that school heads who impose unauthorised charges or force parents to buy items through the school could face administrative sanctions.
Regional Directors have also been instructed to ensure the directive is communicated to all SHS and SHTS heads for strict compliance.
GES urged school authorities to avoid placing unnecessary financial pressure on parents and guardians.
