Cambodia’s Interior Ministry and General Department of Immigration have refuted claims that African nationals, including Ghanaians, face the risk of arrest, imprisonment, or deportation starting June 1, 2026.
In a statement released on May 29, 2026, the immigration authorities labelled the viral circular circulating online as “fake news” and clarified that it was not an official directive from the Cambodian government.
The statement indicated that the department had observed false information being disseminated on various websites and social media platforms, suggesting that foreigners from African nations would encounter immigration actions in Cambodia.
The General Department of Immigration emphasised that these assertions are “completely untrue” and encouraged the public to depend solely on official government sources for immigration-related information.
“To obtain official information, the national and international public are requested to visit the official website of the General Department of Immigration,” the statement noted.
Authorities also shared their official hotline number for any further inquiries and clarifications.
This clarification follows the viral notice, which raised concerns among Africans residing in Cambodia and those intending to travel to the Asian nation.
