A fire has ravaged sections of the Nima Market in Accra, following an extensive battle by firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service that lasted several hours.

The Service provided a brief update on the incident via its official Facebook page on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, indicating that intensive firefighting operations are currently underway at the market.

“HAPPENING NOW: RIGOROUS FIREFIGHTING UNDERWAY AT NIMA MARKET,” the post stated.

Information regarding the fire’s origin, the level of damage incurred, or any potential casualties has not yet been verified.

Fire Service personnel are currently on-site, working diligently to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent buildings and shops.

Additional updates are anticipated as firefighting efforts persist.
