The Accra High Court has mandated the remand of the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, commonly referred to as Abronye DC, in police custody due to his noncompliance with a court directive that required him to surrender his passport as part of his bail conditions in an ongoing criminal case.
The court issued this order after concluding that Abronye DC had not followed the terms established when he was granted bail.
Abronye DC was not present in court when the ruling was announced.
The Bono Regional Chairman is currently facing a charge of false publication in a case initiated against him by the State.
Last month, the High Court granted him bail after he had previously been remanded following his arraignment on the charge.
As part of the bail conditions, he was instructed to deposit his passport with the court.
However, his purported failure to comply with that directive led the court to revoke the relief previously granted and order his remand in police custody.
The substantive criminal case remains unresolved and is anticipated to proceed before the Circuit Court, where hearings on the false publication charge are currently taking place.
