Bawumia urges NPP Youth to train for leadership roles ahead of 2028

The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the party’s youth wing to prepare for leadership roles and help bring the NPP back to power in the 2028 general elections.

He made the remarks during a meeting with student leaders on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, ahead of a three-day boot camp organised by the party.

He explained that the programme aims to train young members and equip them with the skills needed for future leadership positions.

“I want you to be assured that this training program is for your benefit because we want the youth to take key leadership positions,” he said.

“And we cannot get you into key leadership positions if we don’t prepare you for the uptake of these leadership positions,” he added.

Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence that the NPP can win the 2028 elections if the party starts preparing early and strengthens its mobilisation efforts.

“2028, Inshallah, it is going to happen in 2028. It is possible. It is possible. And we are going to work towards it,” he stated.

He said the party will not depend on luck but will actively train members and engage young voters across the country.

“We are not going to sit down and say it will happen, but we are going to work,” he said.

He noted that young people will play a major role in the next election, just as they did in 2024, and said youth engagement remains central to the party’s strategy.

“The youth will take over the key positions as we move forward in this country. You know that the vote is largely youth-dominated. 2028, as it was in 2024, will be a youth-dominated election,” Dr. Bawumia noted.

He also announced plans to strengthen engagement with the Tertiary Students Confederacy of the New Patriotic Party (TESCON), adding that he intends to visit campuses to share the party’s vision.

“We will take the debate, the ideas to the country, and we will make our case,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia further stated that the NPP will not be discouraged by arrests.

“We are, however, saying that we will not be intimidated. You can arrest all of us. We will come back and make our case to the people of Ghana,” he stated.

He encouraged student leaders to stay united and make full use of the training programme as the party prepares for the future.
