Former Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye has asked the Ministry of Health to provide proof to support claims of procurement irregularities linked to the Weija Paediatric Hospital project.
According to him, government officials should not continue making allegations about procurement breaches without showing documents or evidence to back the claims.
During his interview today, Dr. Okoe Boye questioned what he described as inconsistencies in the Ministry’s explanation about the delay in opening the facility.
He said it does not make sense for officials to claim there was misprocurement while also saying the hospital could be commissioned within a few weeks.
“Someone tells you there’s misprocurement, and at the same time, they are telling you in three weeks they are going to commission. Don’t you see the contradiction?” he questioned during the discussion.
Dr. Okoe Boye also denied claims that the project was affected by procurement breaches during his time in office, insisting that there was no “misprocurement”.
His comments come at a time when many people are expressing concern over the delay in opening the fully completed 120-bed Weija Paediatric Hospital, which is expected to improve specialised healthcare for children in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality and nearby communities.
On Tuesday, May 5, residents protested at the hospital, calling on authorities to immediately commission and operationalise the facility.
