A Nigerian national is reportedly accused of abandoning her newborn baby at Buokrom-Asikafo Amantem within the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.
According to residents, the mother, whose identity remains unknown, allegedly fled the scene shortly after leaving the baby at the rear of a house during the early hours of Monday, July 13, 2026.
Speaking in an interview with OTEC News monitored by The Ghna Report, one resident noted that the woman seemed to have given birth shortly before abandoning the child.
“Some residents saw her with the baby, with signs of giving birth not long ago. However, she abandoned the baby and left the area,” he stated.
He further noted that the residents have since rescued the baby and are making efforts to connect with the relevant authorities in an attempt to locate the mother.
“We have notified the police about the incident, and we are waiting for their response,” he added.
The police have not yet provided any comments regarding the situation.
Currently, the baby is under the care of residents as they await assistance from social welfare and health officials.
