A 27-year-old man has been lynched in Mpasatia, located in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, following allegations of stealing a tricycle, commonly referred to as an “aboboyaa”.
The deceased, whose identity remains unverified, was reportedly seized by residents in the early hours of the morning due to accusations of theft involving the tricycle.
It is reported that the suspect was apprehended by community members around 3:00 a.m. and was allegedly subjected to brutal beatings.
“The young man was allegedly caught in connection with the theft of an aboboyaa and was later found dead under circumstances believed to be linked to mob action,” a source from the community revealed.
While the precise details surrounding his death have yet to be determined, initial reports indicate that he may have succumbed to injuries inflicted during the assault.
The incident has been reported to the police, who have initiated investigations into both the alleged theft and the events leading to the man’s death.
A police representative stated that the identity of the deceased has not been disclosed pending family notification and further enquiries.
“We are investigating the matter to establish the facts surrounding the incident and identify all persons involved,” the source remarked.
This recent occurrence has reignited concerns regarding mob justice in certain communities, prompting residents to be encouraged to report suspected criminals to law enforcement rather than taking matters into their own hands.
