Release full Constitution Review Committee report – Democracy Hub to Mahama

Democracy Hub is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to act quickly by releasing the full report from the Constitution Review Committee.

They also want a clear plan with timelines showing how the proposed changes will be carried out.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Tuesday, April 21, the Director of Policy and Research at Democracy Hub, Kirchuffs Atengble, said the Youth Platform on Constitutional Reform is demanding more openness and faster action on the reforms.

He explained that releasing only a summary of the report is not enough for people to properly understand it or take part in discussions.

He added that the group is willing to support some of the key proposals. These include lowering the age requirement to become president, limiting the number of ministers, making changes to the judiciary, and strengthening local governance.

However, their support depends on three things: the full report being made public, proper nationwide consultations, and clear steps to make sure the reforms are actually implemented and not abandoned like in the past.

“We demand that the government publish the full unabridged report of the Constitutional Review Committee, without further delay and reduction as indicated earlier,” he said.
