NPP condemns Kevin Taylor’s remarks about Kufuor, demands public apology

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticised social commentator Kevin Ekow Taylor over comments he made about former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and is demanding that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President John Dramani Mahama publicly distance themselves from the remarks.

During one of his political talk shows, Kevin Taylor described the former President as lazy and said he should “stand up and walk”.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 8, and signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP described the comments as disrespectful and unacceptable.

The party stated that former President Kufuor made major contributions to Ghana’s economy, democracy, and international reputation during his time in office.

“This is not politics. This is desecration,” the statement said, stressing that President Kufuor should be treated as a national figure and not used as a political target.

The NPP further argued that the NDC’s silence on the issue suggests complicity because of what it called Kevin Taylor’s “well-documented ties” to the party.

The party further called on President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC leadership to immediately distance themselves from the attacks and urged Kevin Taylor to issue an “unqualified and public apology” to the former President.

The statement stressed that Ghanaian cultural values and decency must be upheld in political discourse, warning that attacks on respected national figures should not be tolerated.

The NPP said Ghanaians are closely observing the response of the NDC and the Mahama administration to the matter.
