Why Teacher Kwadwo was sacked by GES

Famous content creator and educator, Teacher Kwadwo, was reportedly sacked from the Ghana Education Service after being absent from his duties for a full year, as stated by former Ministry of Education spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng.

In an interview, Kwasi Kwarteng addressed the ongoing speculation regarding Teacher Kwadwo’s absence from the public eye, asserting that his dismissal was due to professional misconduct rather than political persecution.

“There is an individual known as Teacher Kwadwo, and when he was dismissed… he had not been present at his post for approximately a year. No institution anywhere in the world would condone that,” he asserted.

Kwarteng’s statements provide a new viewpoint, indicating that absenteeism may have been the primary factor leading to his dismissal.

The former spokesperson made these comments while discussing broader issues concerning discipline within Ghana’s education system, particularly regarding the suspension and transfer of teachers and headteachers.

He contended that public sector employees should not be perceived as exempt from disciplinary actions and must be held responsible when they breach established regulations.

“We create the impression that once you enter government or public service, you somehow become immune to disciplinary actions,” he remarked on TV3.

Kwarteng also condemned situations where school authorities circumvent official communication protocols to resolve issues, particularly by involving political figures.

“If a headmaster believes that there is a lack of food in the school, there are proper channels of communication… You do not invite a political party to come and address students. Would that resolve the issue?” he queried.

He insisted that such actions would incur severe penalties if he were in a position of authority.

“If a headmaster were to do this and I were the Minister for Education or the GES director, I would terminate his employment… Why are we allowing such a high level of indiscipline?” he concluded.

His comments have reignited discussions surrounding Teacher Kwadwo’s situation.
