Wendy Shay has been crowned Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

The awards ceremony took place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Grand Arena, where the singer celebrated another major achievement in her music career after an impressive year filled with hit songs and strong performances.

The category was one of the most competitive on the night because it featured some of the biggest names in Ghanaian music. To win the award, Wendy Shay had to beat strong competition from:

  • Kojo Blak
  • KiDi
  • Gyakie
  • Moliy

Many fans and industry players believe Wendy Shay’s consistency and hard work throughout the year helped secure her victory. She released several popular songs and continued to grow her fanbase both in Ghana and internationally.

Her music style, which blends Afrobeats with touches of Ghanaian Highlife, has made her stand out and earned her praise from music lovers.

The award recognises not only hit songs but also an artiste’s influence, popularity, performances and overall impact in the music industry during the year under review.

From successful concerts to strong streaming numbers and social media presence, Wendy Shay remained one of the most talked-about female artistes in Ghana throughout the year.

When she stepped on stage to receive the award, the crowd welcomed her with loud cheers and applause. An emotional Wendy Shay thanked her fans for their continuous support and dedicated the award to her manager and mentor, Bullet.

She also praised the other nominees and said healthy competition helps push the Ghanaian music industry forward.

This latest win marks another important moment in Wendy Shay’s journey and further confirms her place as one of Ghana’s leading Afrobeats and Afropop artistes.
