Ghana’s Black Meteors will resume preparations on Monday, October 12, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram ahead of their CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Libya next month.
Head coach Desmond Ofei is expected to work with 32 locally based players as the team begins preparations for the two-legged encounter scheduled for the November 9–17 international window.
The squad will be reduced as preparations progress, while six foreign-based players are expected to join the team ahead of the qualifiers.
The technical team plans to keep the locally based players in camp until the matches, although temporary releases may be granted weekly to allow players to honour their clubs’ league fixtures.
Ghana will travel to Libya for the first leg before hosting the return encounter. The Black Meteors must win the tie on aggregate to advance to the final qualifying round, where they will face either Equatorial Guinea or Niger.
The qualification campaign consists of three rounds, with seven countries set to join hosts Egypt at the eight-team U-23 Africa Cup of Nations finals.
The Black Meteors are seeking a return to the Olympic men’s football tournament after Ghana’s last appearance at the 2004 Athens Games.
