New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has dismissed suggestions that his previous political rivalry with newly elected National Chairman John Boadu could affect their ability to work together.
The comments follow the NPP’s recent national executive elections, in which John Boadu emerged as National Chairman while Justin Kodua retained the General Secretary position.
The two politicians previously contested the General Secretary position at the party’s 2022 National Delegates Conference, with Justin Kodua defeating John Boadu in that election.
However, Justin Kodua said the outcome of that contest should not create difficulties for the party’s new leadership.
He noted that neither he nor Mr Boadu had publicly expressed an unwillingness to work with the other.
According to him, both politicians are mature enough to put their individual interests aside and focus on the broader objectives of the NPP.
“JB never stood anywhere and said that he can’t work with me. Likewise, I never stood anywhere and said I cannot work with JB,” Mr Kodua said.
He said the party’s immediate focus should be on rebuilding its structures and preparing for the 2028 general election.
Mr Kodua also pointed to a shared objective among the newly elected executives, saying they are committed to supporting NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid.
He expressed confidence that Mr Boadu and the incoming executives would work effectively with the General Secretary’s office to advance the party’s electoral ambitions.
The comments come as the NPP begins a new phase of internal reorganisation following its national executive elections in Kumasi, with the leadership expected to strengthen unity and coordinate preparations for the next general election.
