Baffour Awuah granted GH¢10m bail after pleading not guilty to EOCO charges

Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has been granted GH¢10 million bail after pleading not guilty to three charges filed against him by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The bail was granted following the prosecution’s presentation of the charges before the court, led by Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai. The legislator is required to provide two sureties, who are the MPs for Bosome Freho and Effia.

Baffour Awuah denied allegations including conspiracy to commit a crime, dissipation of public funds and intentionally causing financial loss to the state.

He also pleaded not guilty to a money laundering allegation involving an alleged GH¢1 million transfer to the then Managing Director of SIC Life in 2024.
The charges stem from an EOCO investigation into financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans.

The prosecution is being supported by Senior State Attorney Nana Ama Prempeh and EOCO officers Leo Anthony Asiamah, Emmanuel Dzakata and Rabiatu Abdulai.

Baffour Awuah’s lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, has previously dismissed the allegations, arguing that his client’s involvement in the matter was connected to legitimate legal services provided to SIC Life.

The latest court proceedings followed the MP’s surrender to EOCO on October 1, after the Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest.
EOCO later confirmed that the legislator had surrendered and was cooperating with its investigators. The case will now proceed, with the prosecution expected to present evidence to support the charges.
