Ghana must address worrying winless run — Queiroz

Carlos Queiroz has admitted Ghana must urgently address their poor record in competitive away matches after Tuesday’s 4-2 defeat to The Gambia added to growing concerns around the Black Stars.

Ghana surrendered a 2-0 lead at the Accra Sports Stadium as The Gambia scored four times to complete a remarkable comeback in the 2027 AFCON Group C qualifier.

While the result was Ghana’s latest setback, Queiroz stressed that the team’s difficulties did not begin with Tuesday’s defeat.

The Portuguese tactician revealed that Ghana have now gone eight competitive matches without an away victory, describing the run as an issue that requires serious attention.

“For the Ghana national team, this is game number eight on the road that Ghana did not win,” Queiroz said.

He insisted that the poor run must be reviewed as part of a wider assessment rather than blamed solely on the latest defeat.

Queiroz also rejected the suggestion that the Black Stars have become a problem, maintaining that the national team can recover if the right solutions are found.

“The Black Stars was never a problem. It is not a problem and it will never be a problem in the future, as far as we find the solutions to bring the team together,” he said.

The coach acknowledged that Ghana face several challenges, including injuries and squad instability, but maintained that the immediate priority is to prepare better for the remaining matches.

The defeat leaves Ghana under pressure after two consecutive losses in Group C, making their next qualifiers increasingly important in their bid to stay in contention for qualification.
