Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz has called for consistency and long-term planning as Ghana seeks to build a team capable of competing regularly for major honours.
Ahead of today’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia, Queiroz said building a successful national team requires more than occasional qualification or isolated victories.
The Portuguese coach pointed to Ghana’s past achievements at the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2010 World Cup but stressed that sustained success requires a stable core of players and a systematic approach.
“You cannot build a winning team if you change seven, eight, nine players every call-up,” he said.
Queiroz also revealed that Ghana have dealt with significant injury problems, claiming as many as 23 players from his main list have been unavailable.
Despite those challenges, he said the team has avoided making excuses and instead focused on finding solutions.
He also called for investment in youth development, coaching education and football pitches across the country as part of efforts to strengthen the Black Stars pipeline.
For today’s game against The Gambia, however, Queiroz says the immediate focus is on securing a result.
