A 31-year-old female worker has died after a grader ran into her and two other workers at the Dzodze-Penyi section of the Big Push Road Project in the Ketu North Municipality.
The deceased, identified as Miss Mariama Gbemu, was an employee of the construction company working on the project. She died in the accident on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Ketu North Municipal Assembly and signed by the Municipal Chief Executive, Rev. Martin Amenaki, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred shortly after workers had completed their routine morning briefing and dispersed to their respective duty posts.
The Dzodze District Police Command said the grader operator spotted the workers and stopped to pick up a colleague. However, during the process, the machine ran over Miss Gbemu and two other workers.
Miss Gbemu sustained fatal injuries in the incident, while the two other workers suffered serious injuries and were rushed to St. Anthony Catholic Hospital for medical treatment.
Her body has since been deposited at the morgue pending an autopsy.
The Assembly said the grader operator, whose name has not been disclosed, was arrested in connection with the incident but was later granted bail as investigations continue.
The grader has also been impounded and is expected to be tested by officials of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) as part of investigations into the fatal accident.
